We all have a superficial wish list in a partner, but nothing superficial should ever get in the way of romance. That’s why I always tell my clients, “Throw away your list.” We need to marry your wants with your needs, both of which are based on your values, not looks or age.
My advice to men and women: forget age altogether.
Men often look for younger women because they think women their own age are jaded while a younger women are more carefree and easier to manage. This causes a problem as This causes a problem as
The problem is, no one is thinking about what these young women are looking for in a partner.
Women in their late 20’s and 30’s want to date someone closer to their age and are excited to start a family. This is a problem for an older man 5-10 years (especially 15-20) that doesn’t want to have another set of children. So right off the bat, these two people aren’t on the same page, or even reading the same book.
Another scenario: We have men choosing women 10 years younger only to find themselves often stuck in a cycle of advising, supporting and dealing with growing pains. The result is that they’re single again when their 25-year-old wife grows into herself and decides she wants a different life and quite possibly a different man.
Part of being truly relationship ready as a man is understanding not just what you want, but what you need. As a matchmaker, it’s my job to find a woman that marries the two and makes you feel amazing. Older women are in better shape physically and emotionally more now than ever. Not to mention that their values and lifestyle will be more in line with yours.
Get it out of your head that you need to marry someone of a certain age, the heart wants what it wants, don’t let age stand in the way.
